When I was 4 years old, my parents bought me a babykart. With this kart I drove my first ever lap at the property of my father’s company, a track which was made out of old tyres. Later on I started practicing at an indoor track in Heerenveen, where I could practice before the opening times of the public. The first time I drove on an official track was in Amsterdam. After that we immediately found a road to a small circuit in Strijen, where we had a really nice time.
In 2002 the KNAF nominated me as the “Rookie of the Year.” In 2007 I competed in the Dutch and Belgian Championship of KF3. I also drove Rotax-Max Junior because I was not old enough to drive international KF3. I finished 2nd in all of the championships.
From 2008 I started to drive International KF3, in co-operation with Dino Chiesa and our own team; De Vries Competition. As a result, we won the WSK and German championship in our first year of KF3.
2009 was a dream season. We won the WSK and German Championship again and also the European Championship. The World Cup was a big disappointment, when we used the wrong front sprocket for the main final. If we had of made the right decision on what sprocket to use, I was confident that we could have won the race. We were the quickest for the whole weekend, having secured pole position, won all 4 heats including the pre-final. It was only in the final that we used the wrong front sprocket (this means that we where 7 teeth bigger than normal) we still finished 4th even though Sarno has a pit straight length of 300 meters minimum.
At the end of 2009 we signed an agreement with Anthony Hamilton and Mclaren. Who will support me for the rest of my career.
In 2010 we made the step to SKF, where we made a good start to the season.
